Yippppeeeeee! Got my UK Passport back

One more thing I can cross off my UK To Do list – got my UK passport back the other day after being renewed and jazzed up with a more up to date (and not as heinous photo haha).  Also has a pretty nifty chip in it which was fun to look at haha. But ultimately this wee rectangular thing is gonna be getting a bit of use in the next couple of years so I decided to jazz it up with a funky cover….. :D

Keep an eye on my UK Countdown page as I endeavour to get through all my stuff haha :D

Man boobs on bikes…

This is brilliant…

Man boobs or moobs of all shapes and sizes were unleashed today in central Christchurch.

Dozens of men took part in the first ever Man Boobs on Bikes parade through the city.

The stunt that provoked a public squabble for featuring topless women perched on motorbikes promoting the Erotica expo underwent a metamorphosis today with topless men raising awareness of breast cancer.

The new version of man mammaries on two-wheeled transport, organised by the Tahu FM radio station, coincided with Pink Ribbon Day.

Station manager Blade Jones said she was making no excuses for riding on the coat-tails of publicity surrounding the annual Boobs on Bikes parade because that parade had a positive outcome.

Breakfast DJ and boob-ride instigator Ra Dallas said he had seen the Auckland parade on television and imagined how funny it would be if the participants were all men.

“Then I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do something like that and actually make some money out of it for a good cause,’ ” he said.

“It’s about supporting our women and talking about this killer disease that’s taking our mothers, our sisters, our wives and grandmothers.”

Dallas said he had broached the idea with male friends, including a couple of Canterbury rugby players.

Their enthusiasm encouraged him to go public with the idea.

The event is supported by Canterbury Breastcare.

Each year about 2400 New Zealand women and 20 men are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Stupid doc…

Well I thought it was about time to go pay a visit to the doctor as my croaky voice turned into a nasty cough + phlegm + headache + insanely sore throat + runny drippy nose + crankiness…

So I rang to make an appointment and OF course my normal lovely lady doctor was away for two weeks so I was given the choice of another two docs -

  • another lady doctor who was not-so-lovely
  • a male doctor who I had only previously seen once about a year ago for a smear (of all things!)

So I umm’d and ahh’d over it for about 5 secs and thought that it was best to take option B (the temptation of a bitchy doctor wouldn’t bode well for my crankiness you see…)

So yesterday I rocked on up at 2.30pm to see the dude doctor and when I sat down he was like “Oh I don’t think we’ve met before?” and the thought that came straight into my head was “Well you just probably don’t remember my face…” hahaha! But I kept my mouth shut and just said “No I don’t think we have either”. Just safer that way methinks… plus I didn’t wanna make the poor wee man embarrassed.  So I ran through my symptoms and he promptly listened to my chest, then said that it didn’t sound too bad so the worst of my illness had been and gone – no drugs needed! bugger…. So then I told him about my insanely sore throat (but only on the left side when I swallow = major pain) so he had a look with the wee light thingy and then he promptly went bright red and basically asked if the inflammation could be the result of a certain extra-curricular activity involving a male! To which I responded by bursting into laughter and saying “Um no you need a boyfriend to get that and I don’t have one of them…” So he took a swab of the area with a wee pointy thing which really hurt and prompted me to have a coughing fit… eyes watering the whole shebang – through which he was still talking and expected me to be able to answer!!! Yeah good one buddy….

So yeah basically now i’m waiting to see what the swab comes back with on Friday to see if it’s bacterial or viral – hence I will know if antibiotics can help my plight… it really sucks cos it’s affecting my enjoyment of eating!! :(

Ah well… best fly… lunchtime has vanished for yet another day!

Til next time dudes & dudettes… xxoo

I wanna be a Vet Nurse!

Well I’ve decided…. when I get to the UK and have settled down into regular work after travelling round exploring Europe and such places…. I’m going to look into doing night or weekend classes to start working towards becoming a Veterinary Nurse!!!  This all came about because I realised the other day that whenever I see or interact with an animal it makes me happy and I’ve always wanted to have a job that makes me happy.  I think being a Vet Nurse would do that! Also I’m in no way squeamish when it comes to the blood and gore to do with surgeries etc which is good…. the only thing that would stop me from pursuing this career would be the emotional side of things… when the animals I get to know end up dying.  But I think that would be a small pain VS a humungous daily reward!

Anyways that’s my plan… now I just have to make it a reality!

First things first… Rossco has to get to the UK!!!!! Bring on Feb 11th 2009.

Croaky voice rears it's head again

Well just like clockwork it’s time for my “change of season illness” haha I started feeling a bit off a couple of days ago but today it’s really taken effect.  I’m gonna have to take tomorrow off cos one of my co-workers is due for a major operation in a couple of weeks and I really don’t wanna be giving her my germy germs!  So yeah tomorrow will be a day of lazing about the house and surfing the net down in my flat I think… so I don’t give mum and dad my feral germs!

Oh and by the by I haven’t sighted George or Mildred pretty much since GG left this country… so my thoughts are that she sped away from here on her last day and made a beeline for George… then took him home for a last supper in NZ. Obviously Mildred saw the whole thing and is just distraught in her grief… I can just picture her drowning her sorrows in the Estuary behind Work with a glass of Beam the poor wee sausage…. ooops I mean duck :D

Renewed excitement!

Well I have no idea why really but over the last week I’ve been filled with renewed excitement about my venture into the unknown re: my move to the UK next Feb!!  I have to admit I was wondering if I would be dis-illusioned by seeing GG’s updates on Facebook to do with what she’s doing in the UK (which would get me focusing on the fact that I’ve still got 4mths to go til I get there….) but it’s the total opposite! Seeing her status changes just makes me more excited to think I’m gonna be doing the same things in Feb as she’s doing now :D   I spose it just makes it more real as I was around during her build-up to going away and now she’s actually there!

I’m sticking to my time-frame plan I made up of everything I have to get done before I go… but booking the accommodation has had to have a bit of a re-think to ensure I actually get a private room at the YHA in Oxford. Basically I was going to leave the booking of my first week’s accommodation until the beginning of December but I emailed YHA Oxford to see how what my chances would be of getting a private room then and the answer was “Slim to none” haha so I’ve decided to get my YHA membership sometime this month (Oct) and book it so it’s done.  No idea what I’m gonna do for accommodation once the first week’s over but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it (May just have to crash on GG’s couch!) I think it’s important to have a private room that first week cos i’ll be completely knackered after the flight and won’t want people coming and going in a shared room….

On the work front: End of month over for another month YIPPPEEEE!! Can’t wait to pass on more of my work to Nicola but first I’ll be training the second new person who arrives next week and for the next week after that I won’t have a desk!! :(
